Anyone who works homicide knows the time will come when one case will bring you to your knees. Detective Bobby Dodge is still haunted by his, although the madman who tortured a young girl—and nearly killed him—is mercifully dead. If they’re doing a good cop, bad cop routine, she’s glad the great-looking guy is on her side. Indeed, Bobby listens intently as the lovely young woman explains her childhood on the run and how one time, before her parents whisked her away yet again, she gave her locket to her best friend. Annabelle never learned why her father, dead for many years, kept her in hiding. But she has no doubt the little girl in that grave was supposed to be her.
