“‘I’ll take it.’ Decker punched the blinking light. ‘Lieutenant Decker.’
‘Lieutenant…? My stepdaughter’s missing….That sumbitch husband of hers…killed her…! My stepdaughter's name is…Roseanne Dresden…. You mighta probably read her name in the papers saying she was on that WestAir flight that crashed down on the apartment building….'
Decker’s mind was racing…. ‘Mr. Lodestone, are you saying that your stepdaughter wasn’t on that WestAir flight?’
‘Thatvs exactly what I’m saying.’
‘But the papers reported her as one of the victims.’
‘Young man, I’m sure someone somewhere musta told you that you should never believe what your read in the papers.’”
It was a routine commuter flight from Burbank to San Jose—until it crashed into an L.A. apartment building. Was it terrorism? Mechanical failure? Or something else? Lieutenant Peter Decker, along with the help of his wife, Rina Lazarus, is working overtime to calm his community’s frayed nerves, but after months of sifting through the wreckage, he has no answers. Then, things get more perplexing when all the bodies aboard the plane are recovered—except for one flight attendant named Roseanne Dresden.
Roseanne’s parents suspect foul play by her husband, Ivan, whom she was planning to divorce. When Decker looks into their claim, it leads him to a charred body at the bottom of the wreckage—only it’s not Roseanne’s. Now Decker has two baffling cases on his plate—and both are getting more mysterious—and deadly—by the minute.
