Dear Reader,
Back in 1996, we read a wonderful book, The Notebook, by an unknown author named Nicholas Sparks.
We were so charmed by it, we did something unusual: we made a debut author a main selection. Sparks has since written more bestsellers, earning him millions of fans. I personally have read each one, and I honestly think The Rescue is his best yet.
Denise Holton is driving home one night when she has an accident and is knocked unconscious. When she comes to, she's looking into the concerned eyes of volunteer fireman Taylor McAden. But she can't swoon for long when she realizes her young son, Kyle, is missing! After a frantic search, Taylor finds Kyle and returns him to his grateful mother.
A few days later, Taylor and Denise run into one another again, and this time the attraction is obvious. Now Taylor has commitment challenged written all over him, and he's not sure he wants to get involved with a single mom. Denise is wary of Taylor, too, since her last relationship left her, well, a single mom.
Over time, the two grow close and eventually fall in love. But then Taylor realizes he cannot get over his devastating past, and shuts out Denise. Now it will be her turn to rescue the man she loves, or lose him forever.
